Description

Happy Canada Day, peoples of DeviantArt! On this occasion to mark the creation of a place we can call our own, I felt it apt to also commemorate French Canada. They often feel repressed and neglected in their nation, but I, for one, would like to remind them that they are as part of this country as anyone else, and are a valuable and treasured element of Canada. I would raise the Unifolie for our nation, but I would also raise la fière fleurdelisé and the flag of Acadia (the flag that little guy on his shoulder is waving) on this day that Canada became.

I'm from Nova Scotia, and Acadia was a former French territory back in the 18th century, before they were extradited by the British. They were chased down to what is now Louisiana, but in recent years, they have resurged back to their homeland, and have raised their own banner in the region.

I totally didn't try to make this for St. Jean-Baptiste Day last week, took too long, and decided to make it for Canada Day instead. Nope. 8-)

This drawing was done in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro with a mix of inks and Copics. Copics give the colour a certain texture, but they're exhausting as hell to colour with. Download for the high-resolution version if you want; you can see that little guy giving a French salute. ;)
